My father used to sing this lullaby to me as a child and luckily for me Sundowners Overland answered that call. When I joined our company in 1998 to lead my first journey as a Tour Leader from Hong Kong to St Petersburg and subsequent journeys along the Silk Road to the magnificent cities of Kashgar, Samarkand, Bukhara and beyond, little did I know that 20 years later I would still feel the passion to instil in others that the idea of travelling overland provides an experience unlike any other. I still remember like yesterday when I was leading a Christmas Trans Mongolian journey many years ago, we were in a little village just outside the Siberian city of Irkutsk and my group and I all got to enjoy a Troika ride (horse-drawn sleigh). We were dashing through the snow, in a three horse open sleigh...you know the rest! It was just magical and an experience that I will never forget.
I love being involved in a company that specialises in these incredible regions and sharing my experiences thus far. Next year my wish is to travel to the Naadam Festival in Mongolia with my husband and two little boys to help them understand the Nomadic lifestyle of these proud people and for them to experience the nation’s most important festival where they will witness displays of archery, wrestling and colourful horseracing events. A few nights living in a traditional Mongolian ger in the Khustai National Park will just be the cherry on top!
