The Shyrdagy Festival in Kygyzstan celebrates the art of making Kyrgyz traditional felt carpets, which has been passed down for many generations and is an important cultural component in the everyday life of nomadic families. Explore the magnificent mountainous region of Naryn, be invited into felt carpet decorated yurts (traditional homes of the Kyrgyz people), meet the incredibly talented women who show off their masterpieces and teach you the methods of the traditional craft, and you`ll soon understand why UNESCO included the Kyrgz felt carpets to their List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Shyrdagy Festival usually takes place in June. The date of the 2020 Shyrdagy Festival has yet to be announced. For further information about Sundowners Overland journeys that visit this festival, please contact our Travel Advisors.
