How much money will you need for daily expenses in Iran?
The average daily cost for sightseeing, transport, food and entertainment is ﷼ 675,000 Riais, which is around $20 US dollars at the time of writing this article.
Iran is a cash-society, you cannot use cards, traveller’s cheques or ATMs. US dollars and Euros are easiest to exchange.
Tipping is not expected throughout Iran apart from high-end restaurants. They will charge a 10% service charge and another 10% is expected on top.
Taxis round up the fare for ease but tipping is not necessary.
It is good practice to offer a small tip to a person who opens a building that is normally closed, and if they refuse, persist, as it is customary to refuse three times before accepting. If they refuse after the third attempt, keep your tip.
