All Aboard! Singapore to London by train!
Celebrating 60 years since the very first Sundowners Overland travellers set out in a couple of ‘combies’ on their adventure across Asia from Bombay to London in 1964. The Asia Overland adventure continues in 2024 when a group of equally pioneering travellers join the latest iteration of the Asia Overland experience – traveling by train from Singapore to London.
For 60 years Sundowners Overland has continued to find new paths across Asia; from the early coach-camping journeys from Kathmandu to London and exploring new routes through the 1970’s beyond the ‘Iron Curtain’ to European Soviet Russia which eventually led to our early journeys along the Trans-Siberian railway from Japan and the Soviet Far East to Moscow & St Petersburg.
The Sino-Soviet ‘thaw’ of the 1980’s led to our pioneering the new Trans Mongolian railway from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar, Siberia and beyond. While the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1990’s re-opened the borders and overland routes to Central Asia as Sundowners carried its first travellers along the ancient Silk Road to the fabled cities of Kashgar, Samarkand and Bukhara.
Whatever the prevailing geopolitical winds of the past 60 years there has always been an overland option to take travellers across Asia, and in 2024 we have a very special 60-day journey travelling from Singapore to London by train by way of Tibet, the Silk Road cities of Kazakhstan, a Caspian Sea crossing and on through the Caucasus to Europe and London.
