Itinerary

Beijing & the Great Wall of China
Our journey begins in Beijing. We enjoy a welcome dinner and spend two days exploring on our tour visiting the sights. We enjoy a Peking Duck dinner, a local delicacy, before boarding our chartered train this evening for the northbound journey across the Gobi Desert and the Mongolian border to Ulaanbaatar. (Comfort and Bolshoi class cars are not available for this one night).

See Remote Mongolia and Siberia
After crossing the border at Erlian, we board the Tsar's Gold which we use for the remainder of the journey. In Ulaanbaatar, we visit Choijin - Lama Temple and the Gandan Monastery - the city's most important where some 500 Buddhist monks reside, before heading into the scenic steppe.

At Lake Baikal in the heart of Siberia we visit a traditional village, enjoy a picnic and take a boat trip on the world's largest freshwater lake. There's time to visit the major cities of Irkutsk and Ulan Ude, to learn about life in Siberia and visit an outdoor museum en route to Novosibirsk where we are welcomed with traditional bread and salt and a tour of this Soviet-style city which developed as a direct result of the railway being built over a century ago.

From Asian to European Russia
The following day we arrive in Yekaterinburg to visit the Church of the Ascension which is infamous for the brutal murders of the Romanov's in 1918. Back on board we enjoy views of the Ural Mountains as the train passes from Asia into Europe bound for Kazan; an interesting city on the Volga River where ornate Russian Orthodox churches share the skyline with the minarets of mosques. We visit the city's Kremlin before our train departs.

After our arrival in Moscow we explore this vibrant city before taking a ride on the city's famous metro where many of the stations are decorated with chandeliers, and colourful mosaics glorifying Socialist workers. We enjoy an overnight in a hotel before the tour reaches its conclusion.
