Spirit of the South

Departing: Mumbai, India - 12 days
Countries visited: India

Contrast the vibrancy of modern day Mumbai with the serenity of ancient temples whilst savouring the unique cuisine of southern India.

Beginning your journey in the colourful, bustling metropolis of Mumbai, you will have the chance to explore its unforgettable bazaars and monuments, perhaps even find yourself on the set of a Bollywood movie.

Once you leave Mumbai you can unwind and relax on the palm fringed beaches of Goa. Heading inland you will discover the astonishing temple complexes of Hubli, Badami and Hampi still standing after hundreds of years.

From ancient civilisations to more modern empires, your journey will then take you to Mysore where you can marvel at the opulent Mysore Palace, former home of the Maharaja for the region and visit the must-see railway museum to see the stylish way the royals travelled in the past.

Continuing on your journey will then take you to Bangalore, a booming city that is the hub of India's IT industry and onto the beachside town of Mahabalipuram on the Bay of Bengal.

Still famous for the work of its stonemasons today, Arjuna's Penance, Shore Temple and the Five Rathas are exquisite examples of ancient art in India, and highlights of this region. After you time exploring the sights here your journey will conclude in Chennai.
