Moscow, Vladimir and Suzdal

Starting your journey in Moscow you will journey the following day to Vladimir, the first stop on the Trans Siberian Railway, where you can witness the majestic Assumption Cathedral and wander the streets if this ancient capital of medieval Rus. Stepping further back in time you will continue on to Suzdal, with its heritage protected fairytale rural setting, impressive kremlin and what would appear to be more churches than people. While you're enjoying the kremlin, make sure you visit the refectory to sample medovukha, a traditional alcoholic honey drink unique to the region.

Pereslavl Zalessky and Rostov Veliky

Your journey then takes you through the peaceful village of Pereslavl Zalessky, founded in 1152 by Yuri the Long-Armed and a popular dacha (summer house) destination for Muscovites set on Lake Pleshcheevo. Then you continue on to Rostov Veliky, one of the oldest and prettiest towns in the Golden Ring. Admire the town's glimmering silver domed Assumption Cathedral, within the stonewashed walls of the towns photogenic kremlin, idyllically set on the shores of Lake Nero.

Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg

Coming out of the countryside you will then visit the urban centre of Yaroslavl, with its picturesque skyline punctuated with characteristic onion domes of the Spassky Church. As the capital of the region, Yaroslavl is a highlight of the Golden Ring waiting to be discovered in its monuments and museums. After your time exploring the city you will board the train to St. Petersburg, for the final leg of your journey. St. Petersburg is a unique treasure-house of 18th century architecture, museums and palaces, waiting to be explored. St. Isaacs cathedral, Palace Square, the Hermitage Museum are just some of the highlights that you shouldn't miss.
