Itinerary

Day 1. Beijing
Immerse yourself in the bustling metropolis of Beijing. An incredible city of contrast where high rises and cutting edge architecture mingle with imperial palaces and ancient hutong areas. 
Suggested sightseeing: Forbidden City, Acrobats, Tiananmen Square, Hutongs, Great Wall of China

Day 2. Trans Mongolian Railway
This morning you climb aboard the Trans Mongolian Railway that climbs north from Beijing and into Asia's largest desert, the Gobi, home of the legendary horsemen who swept out of the Mongolian steppe to conquer Asia. Nomadic settlements dot the landscape where herd and herder eke out a hardy life.

Day 3. Ulaanbaatar
Afternoon arrival into Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel (AT).

Days 4-5. Ulaanbaatar

In Ulaanbaatar high-rise and car jostle for space with ger and horse, and nomads with wind-etched faces mingle amongst urban office workers. Mongolia's rich Buddhist history is reflected here in the Gandan Khiid Monastery and artefacts of the National History Museum. Explore this quirky capital before you climb back aboard the Trans Mongolian Railway to Irkutsk later in the evening.

Suggested sightseeing: Sukhbaatar Square, National History Museum, Zaisan Memorial, Gandan Hiid Monastery, Natural History Museum, Art Museum, throat singing performance.

Day 6. Trans Mongolian Railway

Days 7-8. Irkutsk

Arrive Irkutsk early in the morning and transfer to your hotel (AT). Beyond Mongolia is the vastness of Siberia containing 25% of the world's forest, massive river complexes and the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Lake Baikal; the world's oldest, largest and deepest freshwater lake. Known as the "Paris of Siberia', Irkutsk flourished on the tea trade route between China and Europe and is a perfect place to break your journey and explore the lake before departing aboard the Trans Siberian Railway bound for Moscow.
Suggested sightseeing: Trans Siberian Monument, local History Museum, Decembrists Museum.

Days 9-11.Trans Siberian Railway
Moscow is five timezones and 5000km to the west and as the train gets underway you quickly settle into life onboard. Impromptu picnics with your travelling companions; smoked fish, fresh bread, tomatoes, fruit and berries in season procured at each scheduled stop.

Days 12-13. Moscow
Early morning arrival into Moscow and transfer to your hotel (AT). Moscow has reasserted its place amongst the great cities of the world once more. Its wonderful historic heart is proudly presented and easy to get around, with many major sights within walking distance or you can enjoy the palatial metro system, which is destination in itself! Don't miss the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, Tretyakov Gallery and Pushkin Museum. If time allows, extend your journey on the overnight train to St. Petersburg - Our Travel Advisors can arrange this for you.
