This is a journey across the length of the Indian subcontinent, from Kolkata on the Bay of Bengal to Mumbai on the Arabian Sea and to Kochi in the south on the Indian Ocean and encompasses many of India’s most important religious, historical and architectural sights.

  

 

Itinerary


Days 1-3. Kolkata (Calcutta)

Sprawling along the eastern bank of the Hoogly River, framed by the Howrah Bridge and the Vidysassagar Setu, is the former capital of British India, Kolkata, the birthplace of modern Indian literary and artistic thought.

In the evening of Day 3 you board the Kalka Howarh Express to Varanasi. 

Suggested sightseeing: Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, Kali Temple Dalhousie Square, Planetarium. 

Days 4-5.Varanasi
Arrive Varanasi and transfer to you hotel (AT). One of the oldest cities in the world on the banks of the sacred Ganges, Varanasi has been a cultural and religious centre for thousands of years. Today it is still one of the holiest places in India.

The following evening depart Varanasi aboard the Vikramshila Express to Agra. 

Suggested sightseeing: The Ghats, Ganges cruise, Ram Nagar Fort, The Great Mosque of Aurangzeb. 

Days 6-7. Agra
Arrive Agra and transfer to your hotel (AT). Best known as home to the awe inspiring Taj Mahal, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful structures ever made, the milky white monument to love is a highlight of any journey to India. 

Early evening on Day 7 you depart Agra aboard the Taj Express to Delhi and transfer to your hotel (AT).

Suggested sightseeing: Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra, Fatehpur Sikri, city markets. 

Days 8-9. Delhi
Welcome to Delhi, a city that encapsulates two very different worlds of old and new. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, is now a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling hovels and formidable mosques. In total contrast the spacious New Delhi was built as the imperial capital of India by the British and is filled with tree line avenues and dominating government buildings. 

Suggested sightseeing: Old Delhi, India Gate, Chandi Chowk, Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Jama Masjib, Bahai Temple, Gandhi National Museum. 

Days 10-11. Jaipur
A early morning departure from Delhi aboard the Shatabdi Express will bring you to Jaipur and transfer to your hotel (AT). Also referred to as the 'Pink City' Jaipur the colourful and chaotic capital of Rajasthan oozes a royal charm that lingers from the family that once ruled the region in 1727. 

Late the following evening depart Jaipur aboard the Chetak Express to Udaipur.

Suggested sightseeing: Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar Observatory.

Days 12-13. Udaipur
Arrive Udaipur and transfer to your hotel (AT). This alluring city is also known as the 'Venice of the East', with the splendid Lake Pichola lapping against its shimmering white buildings and the Aravalli Hills perfectly placed to form its lush, green backdrop.

The following afternoon depart Udaipur aboard the overnight express train to Ahmedabad. 

Suggested sightseeing: Jagdish Temple, Pichhola Lake, Lake Palace, City Palace, roof top restaurants.  


Days 14-15. Ahmedabad

Arrive Ahmedabad and transfer to your hotel (AT). Perched on the banks of the River Sabarmati, Ahmedabad is a city with intricate Jain temples, fine museums, Hindu-Islamic architecture and beautiful lakes.

Depart Ahmedabad aboard the Karanavti Express to Mumbai (Bombay) and transfer to your hotel (AT). 

Suggested sightseeing: Jama Masjid, Jain Temples.   

Days 16-17. Mumbai (Bombay)
Welcome to the home of Bollywood, the financial capital and almost fifteen million people! Mumbai is an utterly mind bending assault on all the senses - just go with its rhythm!

The next evening leave the hustle and bustle in your wake aboard the scenic Konkan Kanya Express to Goa. 

Suggested sightseeing: Victoria Gardens, Prince of Wales Museum, Haji Ali Mosque, Gateway of India and outside Mumbai the Elephanta caves. 


Days 18-20. Goa 

Arrive Goa and transfer to you hotel (AT).
East meets west in this glorious slice of India, where Indian culture intertwines with Portuguese influences remaining from almost five hundred years of colonial rule. 

Depart Goa late evening aboard the Mangla Lakshawdeep Express to Cochin (Kochi).

Suggested sightseeing: Goa’s many beaches, Basilica of Bom Jesus, Church of St.Francis, Spice Plantations, Beach Markets. 

Days 21-22. Cochin (Kochi)
Arrive Cochin (Kochi) and transfer to your hotel (AT). This significant and beautiful port city Kochi is nestled between the tranquil backwaters and sandy beaches of Kerala's coast and is one of the most historically rich locales in India. 

Board the Bokaro Express train to Coimbatore the following morning then travel to by local bus to Ooty.

Suggested sightseeing: Fort Kochi, Chinese fishing nets, Jewish Synagogue, or just cruise the backwaters. 

Days 23-24. Ooty
The picturesque Hill Station of Ooty lies at an altitude of 2286 metres and is surrounded by rolling hills covered with dense vegetation, deep ravines and plateaus covered with coffee and tea plantations as well as eucalyptus trees, offering a breathtaking kaleidoscope of visual treats and experiences unique to the region. 

Depart Ooty the following day by local bus to Mysore. 

Suggested sightseeing: Ooty Lake, Botanical Gardens, Lamb’s Rock.  

Day 25. Mysore
Mysore - known for its magnificent palaces, majestic buildings , sprawling gardens, traditional painting, shimmering silk and sandalwood. 

Suggested sightseeing: Mysore palace, Lalita Mahal Palace, Brindavan Gardens. Then depart Mysore aboard the Shatabdi Express to Bangalore and transfer to your hotel (AT).

Day 26. Mysore to Bangalore
Your journey will take you from Mysore to the Bangalore, a booming city that is the hub of India's IT industry, the epitome of the modern face of India. 
Suggested sightseeing: Bull Temple, Ulsoor Lake, Tipu’s Palace.


Day 27. Bangalore to Chennai

Hop aboard the afternoon Shatabdi Express and travel east to the oldest settlement of the British, Chennai. Relax, have some friendly conversation, a nice cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the scenery flickering past your window. In the evening you arrive into Chennai and will be transferred to your hotel (AT). 

Days 28-29. Chennai (Madras) and onto Kolkata  
India's fourth largest city and capital of Tamil Nadu State serviced the spice trade for many centuries under the control of the Portuguese, Dutch and British. If you scratch below the surface you will discover why this city has a reputation as a cultural and artistic hub as well as a true South Indian urban experience. 

Depart Chennai late evening for your final leg of this epic adventure  around India. 

Suggested sightseeing: Fort St.George, Marina Beach, Government Museum.  

Day 30. Kolkata
Arrive Kolkata (Calcutta) and end.
