Travel Advisor Asia Overland
Various cultures and faraway countries fascinated Helder since childhood. He enjoyed discovering unique traditions of countries that were on the other side of the world from his home in Portugal. A degree in Tourism Management and working abroad including some time on the cruise ships reaching far flung places brought Helder to Australia where he is now a part of Sundowners Overland Customer Operations Team. Helder particularly likes working with Sundowners Overland unique and changing product and creating customised itineraries for clients. He also likes to hear about their travels when they return!
What do you love most about overland travel?
I believe that it’s the best way to experience and explore different countries! Travelling by train or by bus give us the opportunity to see how landscapes change, see different architectures, different cultures and explore less known regions.
Which of the Sundowners Overland destinations fascinates you most?
I’m fascinated by the different countries of Central Asia and Iran, mainly because they have such rich and fascinating history, and hold some of the most ancient and diverse cultures and traditions in the world.
Give us your best tip for travelling on Sundowners Overland journeys.
The best advice I can give when travelling with Sundowners Overland is to try to communicate as much as possible with the different people you’ll meet in the different countries, because that will be the best part of your adventure.
What is your most memorable travel experience?
My most memorable travel experience so far was travelling solo through India and south East Asia. India as many know is a country that challenges and also enchants you. I had a great adventure there and also had the time to learn about myself. Also I have to say that I loved the cuisine, even not eating meat for a couple of months.
In South East Asia, I’ve meet wonderful people, visited amazing places and had one of the most beautiful boat trips of my life for my 30th birthday on the grand Mekong River.
Which Sundowners Overland journeys are on your wish list?
The Sundowners Overland journey in my wish list is definitely the Grand Asian Caravan!
What is your favourite season to travel?
I have to say that I don’t have a favourite season to travel, but I always prefer to go to the warmer spots of the globe.
